Stress Incontinence
STRESS INCONTINENCE CAN HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE.
Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) occurs in woman when they experience leakage when coughing, sneezing, lifting, laughing, or exercising. Affecting between 10-20% of all women it is a major urinary problem, causing embarrassment to many ladies who seek to hide their condition. For example, many stop wearing trousers or jeans or wear black ones to hide their leaks, whilst not realising that with advances in modern technology their condition can be reversed.
Normal
The bladder stays relaxed and the urethra stays contracted and closed until the patient is ready to void.
Stress Incontinence
Urethra is too weak to stay closed during increased intra-abdominal pressure.

Our breakthrough technology using the TESLA Chair, enables our clients to enjoy the simple pleasures of life again, such as going for a coffee with friends or a yoga class, without the constant nagging worry that their incontinence will embarrass them.
How does a healthy bladder work?
Wee is produced by your kidneys and is held in your bladder. The bladder muscles relax and expand like a mini balloon to hold the fluid. When the bladder is filled to a certain level, the brain sends a signal urging you to go to the toilet. It allows the bladder muscles to contract and the wee passes through the urethra (small tube). The urethral sphincter (the muscles that regulate the outflow) relax, thereby draining the wee from your system. A normal, healthy bladder is emptied about 5-7 times a day and 1-2 times during the night.
The urethra and bladder are supported by pelvic floor muscles that contract to prevent leakage during coughing, sneezing, and exercise. Weakness in the muscles or damage to the bladder neck support can cause leakages.
More Medical Information
Causes of stress urinary incontinence include:
- Pregnancy and natural birth.
- Obesity, chronic cough, chronic heavy lifting, and constipation. These can cause an increase in abdominal pressure and aggravate stress incontinence.
- While some people have a genetic disposition to stress incontinence.
How is stress urinary incontinence diagnosed?
If you think you have stress incontinence, the first step is to talk to your GP. This condition affects a large percentage of women so your GP will be used to diagnosing and discussing it. Your GP will enquire as to which activities cause the problems and will generally examine you for other related problems such as a pelvic organ prolapse. Women with stress incontinence may also have problems with urge incontinence, stool, or gas incontinence, which is covered elsewhere on this website. Do not hesitate to report these problems to your local GP.
How the TESLA Chair reverses stress incontinence
The TESLA electromagnetic chair sends signals that stimulate rhythmic contractions to strengthen the patient’s pelvic floor. Many women are recommended pelvic floor or Kegel exercises and can do four or five a minute of differing quality. This chair goes much deeper into the pelvis and can undertake up to 28,500 pain free exercises in the space of 30-minutes, significantly strengthening the pelvic floor and substantially reducing incontinence in a pain free in a relaxed environment.
